March 4 - Well Done
My goal in life is simple: I want to stand before my Creator and hear Him say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
But what does that require? First of all, it requires sacrifice. It means casting away my pride, my selfish desires, and my old definition of "fun". It means always looking for opportunities to help others. It means resisting temptation. It means no compromises. It means working hard on a Friday night, when the rest of the world is out there having "fun." It means taking great joy in knowing I did the right thing. It means always being willing to do the uncomfortable things. It means being a voice for the voiceless, a giving hand to the needy, and a servant to all.
When it all gets too overwhelming, I have to remember something: God rescued me. I was ready to kill myself during the dark times of drinking, stealing, drug abuse, and depression. Yet He still loved me enough to send help my way. The least I can do is dedicate my life to helping others.
For my life to have meaning, I must live according to what I know is right. I find great satisfaction in doing the right thing. It isn't always easy, but it's always worth it. Sobriety is a different kind of fun.
"Heavenly Father, I pray for a steadfast heart today. That I may not waiver, that I may not desire the things of this world. My one desire is to please you, Father. Please grant me the strength to resist temptation today. Please give me the courage to stand up for what I know is right. Please give me the eyes to see those who need help. Please grant me the wisdom to know how to help. I pray that I may become less, so that you may become more. Amen."
