FOMO: Fear of Missing Out
It's why we watch live sporting events, it's why we're glued to our phones, and it's why some of us end up in some tough situations.
Sobriety is full of FOMO. I see people laughing in the bars, I see pictures all over social media of people having a good time drinking, I see rich people drinking, it's all over TV, and people often ask me if I'd like to go "grab a drink".
Do I know that I cannot stop at one drink? Do I remember those crippling hangovers? The shaky hands? The lost jobs? The broken relationships? The distance between myself and God? The people I wronged? If I'm going to consider a drink or going anywhere near a bar, I have to consider the cost.
Now, I have a different kind of FOMO - regarding my future. If I drink, I'll be missing out on a healthy marriage, steady income, a close relationship with God, and all the amazing things that can only happen in sobriety.
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' - Matthew 25:21
