April 1 - Write This Down

It's a new month, and an opportunity to set new goals. I don't really like to get into the "why" behind things. I just know successful people set goals, so I started doing it, too.

Today, I wrote down 17 different goals for the month of April. Some of them are personal, and some are for CLTIVATE. They're all pretty lofty, but I like to aim high, because sobriety has taught me that I can do literally anything I put my mind to (with God's help, of course.)

One of the goals I wrote down is to "Run 10 miles." A little context...I run a lot. Usually around 5 or 6 miles. That's pretty much my limit. I decided to take my training to the next level this month, so at some point I can run 10 miles. Well...today I ran 10 miles, and I don't think it's coincidence that I was able to almost DOUBLE my stamina. It's because I wrote the goal down, and my mind became set on that new task.

It's a great feeling, but it also feels like I got hit by a small bus, then trampled by a herd of rabid buffaloes, then taken away by giant vultures and dropped off on my couch. (Then kicked in the head by a small giant.) Totally worth it. I'll recover.

Take time to write your goals down. I'm not sure the science behind it, but something happens in your brain where you're suddenly capable of more. And don't short-side yourself. Drastic change can happen - you just have to be willing to do the work.
